Seven Step Formula to Reduce Body Fat
Mentors can make a huge difference in your progress to reduce body fat. Tom Venuto’s of Burn The Fat, Feed the Muscle is one of those individuals I look up to. I enjoy reading his content and implementing his principles. One of those principles is his Seven Step Fat Loss Formula.
The formula is based around the principles of Neuro Linguistics Programming. NLP enables you to discover human excellence and then duplicate those results through a procedure called modeling. NLP facilitates communication with yourself, and proper use of feedback to make adjustments to hit your fitness goals.
1. Know your outcome
Goal setting is key to reduce body fat quickly as we have discussed before. The only way to truly achieve your goals is to know exactly where you are going. You never say you will visit a new friend and not ask where they are at. Otherwise how would you know where to go? The same thing goes for anything new in life. You have to know where you are going and then figure out how to get there.
I wrote several posts on goal setting to help reduce body fat percentage. Here is one worth taking a look at on the best way to lose belly fat.
2. Establish your starting point
When you figure out directions of where to go on a map, you have to know where you are currently at. Otherwise it will be hard to know which roads to take. The same thing can be said with fitness. You have to establish your starting point with weight and body fat.
By using skinfold testing, the Bod Pod, or some other form of body fat measurement, it will give you a solid estimate where you are at physically and discover ways to reduce body fat. Here is an article on how to measure body fat. It will also show you an objective look at your physique and an idea of how much work you have ahead of you.
3. Formulate a plan of action
So often success comes from not reinventing the wheel, but instead focusing on modeling based on what others have done successfully before you. Progress often comes with people standing on the shoulders of giants.
Scientists pick up where others have failed in solving diseases by using the knowledge discovered to find cures. CEOs learn from the success or mistakes of competitors to build new and more efficient products. The same is done by trainers to create a diet to reduce body fat.
This is why we have role models and mentors to help guide us in understanding aspects of our lives we care about.
Majority of the world goes around in circles doing the same thing over and over again with little progress or passion. If they achieve their goals, it takes years. Following people like Tony Horton, Tom Venuto, and the advice here at Know My Body can close the learning curve that comes with trial and error. More importantly you can learn healthy habits you can keep for the rest of your life and the exact methods YOU need with your unique body to be successful.
4. Act on your plan consistently
I have heard that the biggest stop is the start. You have to put faith in your plan that it will work. Faith is a two part component: hope and action. Faith requires that you actually take steps out into the proverbial darkness.
This time it requires numerous steps either to the gym or out for a jog. It can be mentally just as challenging, but simply by starting and no matter what your results are, the significance is that you attempt each and every day to be better than the day before.
5. Develop the sensory acuity to know what you are doing is working.
“Sensory Acuity is an NLP term used to describe your ability to see, feel, and notice even the smallest changes in your body.” –Tom Venuto
You have to be aware of the changes that are happening in your body. You are either losing or gaining fat. There is no middle ground. You have to figure out exactly what is happening and what direction you want to go in.
6. If it’s not working, try something else.
Successful people relish failure. Why? It is because they know it is one step closer to success. Failures happen because people quit. Success will inevitably happen if you continue to try. If you use these principles, learn from your body fat gains and losses, then you will know what changes you have to make and speed up the process.
Get excited about knowledge and changes. It is bringing you one step closer to your goals. Planes directions are constantly being shifted mid flight in order to find their destination. Your body is just like an airplane. You have to constantly re-evaluate and make changes to avoid the plateau that happens in nutrition and fitness.
Thomas Edison said, “If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward. Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless.”
7. Be Flexible in your approach and be persistent
We are putting many different thoughts in this blog from numerous experts. Think of it like a buffet. Pull from each guru that gives you a piece of information to add onto your plate of physical health.
Constantly learn. We will provide you with knowledge here, but be willing to search other blogs, listen to podcasts, watch videos, and use fitness training videos. The more you positively feed your mind, in turn it will help to alter your thoughts and improve your habits.
