The Secret Pill to Fighting Disease

Want some jaw-dropping stats about fighting diseases?

$2.6 trillion is spent each year on health expenditures. That is nearly 10x what was spent in 1980. 31% of that is specifically for hospital care. This cost is expected to continue to grow faster than national income over the foreseeable future.

Health costs account for 17.9% of the national Gross Domestic Product. That is huge.

You can see why there has been such an intense debate on health care for years now. While both political parties seem determined and relentless in their ideological pursuits, there is one thing they both agree on: health care is broken.

The Heavy Source

So why is health care broken? Well look at where most of our sickness is coming from. Of the millions of people that are dying annually in the US, most of that is coming from these diseases:

Can you take some simple steps to avoid a lot of time with the doctor?

  • heart disease,
  • cancer,
  • respiratory disease,
  • strokes,
  • Alzheimer’s disease,
  • diabetes,
  • flu,
  • nephrotic syndrome

They can all be linked back to one condition known as metabolic syndrome. What are the signs of metabolic syndrome? Obesity, diabetes, and jacked up insulin levels. All three of those go hand in hand.

Nearly $147 billion is spent annually in the US on fighting obesity. A lot of money is being dumped into this bucket, but with little results being 2/3rds of us are overweight and 1/3rd of us are obese. This has gotten progressively worse over the last 50 years.

Why These Wellness Posts?

So Cade…what does this all mean to me when it comes to fighting diseases?

Well when deciding whether to write a section on wellness, it was daunting thinking about the fact that I am not a doctor, not a physician, and not a self-proclaimed guru. I am just another “you”. (If that makes sense)

At the same time, I also know I have heard from a ton of people that are getting in shape not for cosmetic reasons, not for that hot date, and not for that team they are trying out for.

They just want to live.

They are fighting diseases and have traveled down the winding road of obesity so far that they are almost at a point of no return. The agony is excruciating. The small things like breathing, moving, going to the bathroom, showering, and getting food from the kitchen are all monumental tasks.

This isn’t about vanity. This is survival and fighting diseases aggressively.

And man…does my heart go out to you. So my focus is to write about ways you can take care of your health to better prevent diseases and potentially overcome them.

The Cornerstones of Wellness and Fighting Diseases

As we have talked about medication can help, but it often comes with a price. Any drug that requires a prescription or medical attention has side effects that have to be considered. This is often why prescriptions require a trained doctor in order to get access. There is always a tradeoff with medication.

Some doctors may not be what they are all cracked up to be.

While I think medication can be helpful, it is all secondary to the primary way to take care of your health and avoid short-term and long-term diseases.

I am not here to provide any potion or any magic pill with a stamp of approval from some doctor you never heard of.

What matters the most is getting in  healthy nutrition, consistent exercise, minimal stress, and solid sleep. That is it. Nothing will do more for your health than those cornerstones.

I am not saying it will cure all diseases, but it will definitely impact and prevent most of them.

Somehow these pillars seem to be forgotten. Maybe we don’t like things to be too complicated. Maybe we feel like answers should be more hidden, coming out of some remote forest hidden for millions of years.

Instead, maybe the “secret pill” was under your nose this whole time. Maybe…just maybe…it has been abundant for all of us to partake, but simply neglected.

No one sets out to be overweight or suffer from heart disease, cardiovascular disease or other disabilities brought on by bad health. It is a culmination of poor, small choices made over a long period of time. And somehow we are that frog in the pot gradually experiencing the water getting more and more hot, but we do nothing about it. The next thing you know, you are “on fire” with loads of fat, clogged arteries, and horrible insulin levels with an uphill battle fighting diseases.

What Lies Ahead

So with all of that said, my thought is you deserve some solid support. You deserve some simple steps you can take that can change everything.

I am not going to promise anything, but I do believe that nutrition, fitness, sleep, and a fulfilled lifestyle is everything. If those things break down, then your body will as well.

So while I suggest that you always consult a physician or doctor first, the steps I am going to recommend are not earth shattering or risky. At times these guidelines may seem controversial; though there is a lot of evidence that promotes it. The biggest evidence will always be the results you see for yourself. Are you losing fat? Are you gaining energy? Are your blood and fat levels strong?

The greatest proof is you, your body. Obviously if things are going in the wrong direction with fighting disease, what you are doing right now is not working. The question is what needs to be tweaked or overhauled in order to move your health in the right direction.

What if a few simple consistent tweaks means a normal life, no more fighting diseases, going on walks with your family, seeing your children and grandchildren grow up, retiring with your loved one, or whatever goals keep you wanting to get out of bed each morning.

We are going to talk about some common challenging diseases and the tweaks you can make in order to gain control of your health and understand what is going on with your body.

This can be a hard fought battle. It is a battle that you shouldn’t lose, but more importantly you deserve to win.
